What happens at a first acupuncture appointment?

Your first appointment is longer because Aye takes time to understand what has brought you in, your health history and the wider patterns around it before treatment begins.She then chooses acupuncture points for that appointment rather than following a fixed sequence. Follow-up visits are shorter and build from what has changed since the last treatment.

Can I have acupuncture during pregnancy?

Acupuncture can be used during pregnancy, but pregnancy changes how an appointment is planned and which points are appropriate. Aye needs to know how many weeks pregnant you are and anything relevant about the pregnancy before treatment.Mention pregnancy when you book, or contact SHY before choosing an appointment if you would like Aye to advise whether Five Elements or another route is the right place to start.

What does acupuncture feel like?

The needles are very fine and sensation varies from point to point and person to person. You may notice a brief prick, heaviness, warmth, tingling or very little at all.Aye checks in as she works, and you can ask for a needle to be adjusted or removed at any point.

What should I do before an acupuncture appointment?

Have something to eat beforehand, stay hydrated and wear comfortable clothing. Your first Five Elements appointment also includes a longer conversation about your health and what has brought you in.Let Aye know in advance about pregnancy, blood-thinning medication, a tendency to faint or anything significant in your health history that may affect the appointment.
