SHY Book Club is a seasonal event to treat your mind and deepen your attention. July’s book is Souvankham Thammavongsa’s Pick A Colour.

For all book lovers, no matter if you’ve read the book or not, focused on easy conversation and community.

July's book is Pick A Colour by the award-winning poet and novelist, Souvankham Thammavongsa, whose work has appeared in publications such The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and Granta.

Ning is a retired boxer, but to the customers who visit her nail salon, she is just another worker named Susan. On this summer’s day, much like any other, the Susans buff and clip and polish and tweeze. They listen and smile and nod. But beneath this superficial veneer, Ning is a woman of rigorous intellect and profound complexity. As the day’s work grinds on, the friction between Ning’s two identities will gather electric and crackling force, and at last demand a reckoning.

SHY Book Club is led by Shannon, SHY Studio Manager. Shannon is the founder of the reading consultancy, attend., which helps clients reclaim their attention and deepen their reading practice.
